The July 31, 1969 letter was one of the Zodiac Killer's first known communications with the media. Sent to the Vallejo Times-Herald, it claimed responsibility for the recent attacks in Vallejo and demanded that newspapers publish his letter and cipher. The letter was accompanied by part of the famous Zodiac cipher, beginning the pattern of taunting messages that continued throughout the case.
